With VR Confetti, we are presenting an app for mobile devices for the 48-hour Neukölln Festival, in which houses and objects symbolically dissolve in confetti. This years motto of the festival is "BOOM". It therefore implies the destruction of urban communities through economic change. In the comic world, the term is used to represent explosions or to burst apart. The moment of bursting should be made visible using the VR confetti application. The recipient walks through Weserstrasse, a central exhibition location of the festival, and on the display of his end device he sees how things symbolically turn into confetti. VR Confetti is intended to give an image of the immediacy and dynamism of this process of socio-cultural bursting with the help of augmented reality. In this case, we do not understand VR as a virtual reality, but as a Peoples Republic or even more as a Community Republic. Peoples Republic of Confetti is the reference to social fragmentation due to economic change; humorous, but clear. The application itself is not a game. As an artistic work, it stands for itself and follows the spirit of performance and expanded sculpture. We want to initiate an art-scientific discourse to legitimize new technologies as art or to force an arrangement as a pure art object. VR confetti should serve as inspiration to open the doors to other art applications and to establish the art category, which is not available in the app stores.
